Another Black woman
was killed by the police.
Another. Black. Woman.
Sorry about repeating myself....
Actually, no, I'm not sorry. Sorry is the furthest thing in my mind when talking about Korryn Gaines assassination by the Baltimore County Police Department with her young son cradling in her arms.
Sorry is the furthest thing in my mind when talking about Black women being harassed and abused by the police.
I'm angry and not the type of anger that can be suppressed with a scoop of ice cream and a hug. This type of anger has been brewing for months. This type of anger has been researched and well-read into. This type of anger is
sick and tired of being sick and tired like Fannie Lou Hamer;
fed-up like Shirley Chisholm; and
boiling like Page May. Hmm...maybe you don't see it yet.
On Friday, Joyce Quaweay was stripped, handcuffed, and beaten to death by her partner in Philadelphia. On Saturday, Skye Mockabee was found dead by Cleveland police officers--making her the 17th trans-person killed this year alone. So you can imagine why i'm angry. On Monday, Baltimore County police officers entered Korryn's home while serving a warrant for a failure to appear in court on a traffic citation--only for it to end in fatally and injuring her baby boy. No? You still can't see why I'm upset?
If you can't understand why I'm angry, you might be one of the millions of people in the world that does not understand the injustices done to Black women, the violence and abuse that Black women (dead or alive) endure, nor the historical silencing of Black women.
ONCE EVERY 19 HOURS, A BLACK WOMAN IS KILLED BY A MAN
